From the S/S 2002 collection of Yves Saint Laurent by Tom Ford, this skirt is cut from a sheer, lightweight fabric printed with a trompe-l'œil fawn or deer-hide motif — warm tan ground scattered with irregular ivory dappling that closely replicates the texture and markings of a fawn pelt. The silhouette is founded on a fitted, flat waistband and falls into multiple godets or bias-cut panels that create a fluid, swirling volume through the body before terminating in a pronounced handkerchief hem: multiple pointed or swept panels of uneven length that fall asymmetrically at the front, sides and back, lending the skirt a distinctly languid, deconstructed quality.
