Yves Saint Laurent by Tom Ford S/S 2002 Fawn-Print Sheer Handkerchief-Hem Midi Skirt
From the S/S 2002 collection of Yves Saint Laurent by Tom Ford, this skirt is cut from a sheer, lightweight fabric printed with a trompe-l'œil fawn or deer-hide motif — warm tan ground scattered with irregular ivory dappling that closely replicates the texture and markings of a fawn pelt. The silhouette is founded on a fitted, flat waistband and falls into multiple godets or bias-cut panels that create a fluid, swirling volume through the body before terminating in a pronounced handkerchief hem: multiple pointed or swept panels of uneven length that fall asymmetrically at the front, sides and back, lending the skirt a distinctly languid, deconstructed quality. The raw or very finely finished edges of the hem panels are visible in the movement shots, emphasising the deliberately unstructured conclusion of each point. The print is large in scale and appears continuous across the panels, suggesting careful pattern matching at the seams. The back view reveals further godet fullness and the sheer quality of the fabric, which allows the lining or the wearer's skin to show through at the hem points.
