Yves Saint Laurent F/W 1990 Black Velvet Military-Inspired Jacket With Gold Passementerie Trim

From the F/W 1990 collection of Yves Saint Laurent, this velvet jacket draws on the house's enduring interest in military tailoring. Cut in black velvet with a pronounced peplum silhouette, the jacket features structured, slightly puffed shoulders that taper to a defined waist before flaring at the hip. A stand collar, edged in a double row of gold braided passementerie, frames the neckline; the same trim runs the full length of the single-breasted front opening, along the hem — which is cut in a gentle scalloped curve — and around the cuffs. Five spherical gilt filigree buttons fasten the centre front. The cuffs are further detailed with small decorative loops of passementerie arranged in a hussar-style configuration. A central back seam provides additional shaping. The jacket is fully lined in a smooth, dark fabric.
