Vivienne Westwood F/W 2001 Grey Panelled Asymmetric Mermaid Skirt

From the F/W 2001 collection of Vivienne Westwood, this maxi skirt is constructed in a mid-weight grey cloth and cut to a pronounced mermaid silhouette. A fitted waistband sits at the natural waist, fastening at the centre back with a concealed zip and hook-and-bar closure. The body is composed of multiple bias-cut and diagonally seamed panels that fit closely through the hip before releasing into a dramatically flared, godeted hem. The panelling is architecturally precise, with seam lines radiating outward from the hip in a geometric formation that amplifies the flare as it descends. The hem is intentionally asymmetric, dropping to a pointed train at one side whilst the opposite falls shorter, lending the skirt a sculptural, sweeping quality.
