Roberto Cavalli F/W 1997 Olive And Black Velvet Devoré Midi Dress

From the F/W 1997 collection of Roberto Cavalli, this midi dress is executed in a devoré fabric presenting an all-over scrolling acanthus motif in cut velvet pile against a sheer ground, rendered throughout in deep olive and black. The dress is cut with a wide, shallow square-scooped neckline and short puffed sleeves, each finished at the hem with a narrow ruched trim in a tonal metallic olive. A matching ruched waistband in the same metallic trim defines the empire-adjacent waist, from which a softly gathered skirt falls to midi length. The bodice is lightly gathered across the chest, lending gentle volume. The silhouette is unstructured and fluid, consistent with the stretch inherent in the devoré ground. No visible external closure is present in the photographs.
