Jean Paul Gaultier SS1999 Floral-Print Mesh Maxi Dress

This Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Maille dress is constructed in a fine open-knit mesh in a muted stone ground. The garment is sleeveless, cut in a close-fitting, body-conscious silhouette with a wide scoop neckline and broad shoulder straps finished with a contrasting cream-toned trim at the neckline edge. The all-over print depicts a naturalistic botanical composition — cherries on the branch, pansies, roses, daffodils and assorted foliage rendered in deep crimson, yellow, green and brown — concentrated across the bodice and repeated as a border frieze at the hem. A faint facsimile signature is printed across the midriff. The skirt falls straight to maxi length with a gently flared hem. The construction appears seamless at the sides, consistent with the knitted Maille technique.
