Christian Dior by John Galliano S/S 2004 Blush Pink Ruched Off-Shoulder Ruffled Train Gown
From the S/S 2004 collection of Christian Dior by John Galliano, this floor-length gown is constructed in two distinct fabric registers unified by a blush pink palette. The fitted bodice is cut with a sweetheart neckline and an off-shoulder drape, with fabric gathered and twisted at the centre front into a pronounced knot at the bust and a second knot at the low hip, articulating the figure through ruching that extends from décolletage to the skirt join. Cap sleeves are formed from two tiers of finely ruffled, lighter-weight fabric, lending a delicate contrast in texture and weight against the more structured bodice. The back is open above the waist, framed by the ruffled collar, and closes along the centre back with a long run of fabric-covered buttons extending from the upper back to the hip. The skirt transitions at the low hip into a voluminous A-line silhouette cut from a heavier, faintly lustrous fabric that falls in broad, sweeping panels to the floor and extends into a generous extended train. The gown's seaming at the skirt join is pointed at the front and back, emphasising the dropped-hip construction.
