Christian Dior by John Galliano S/S 1999 Black Sheer Open-Front Cable-Knit Jacket

From the S/S 1999 collection of Christian Dior by John Galliano, this open-front jacket is worked in a fine, semi-sheer open-stitch knit with alternating cable and ladder motifs running vertically across the body and sleeves. The stand collar is finished in a denser ribbed knit, framing the pronounced front opening, which fastens with a short run of frog-style loop closures at the chest — a direct nod to the cheongsam tradition referenced in the collection. The front panels taper away below the fastening, leaving the body entirely open and cropped, while the long sleeves extend to a close-fitting ribbed cuff. The back is fully constructed in the same open-knit fabric, cut to follow the shoulder and follow a fitted line through the torso. Throughout, a subtle metallic quality in the yarn gives the surface a subdued lustre under light.
