From the S/S 1998 collection of Christian Dior by John Galliano, this pencil skirt is constructed throughout in an ivory floral lace, the all-over guipure-style motif worked in a tonal cream-on-ivory ground that reads as a unified surface. The cut is high-waisted and straight, tapering slightly through the hip and thigh to a knee-length hem. A single side slit at the lower right provides ease of movement and introduces a quietly alluring detail to an otherwise disciplined silhouette. The waistband is finished as a clean, structured band without visible external fastenings. The lace is mounted over what appears to be a lining, giving the skirt its opacity and body.
