Yohji Yamamoto S/S 2020 White Balloon-Hem Embellished Shirt Dress
From the S/S 2020 collection of Yohji Yamamoto, this maxi shirt dress is constructed in a crisp white fabric and executed in an architecturally voluminous silhouette. A pointed shirt collar sits above a full-length centre-front button placket fastened with tonal buttons. The sleeves are cut to approximately elbow length and finished with a turned cuff. The body is cut with considerable volume, flaring dramatically from the upper bodice into a ballooned, cocoon-like lower skirt. A pronounced horizontal seam at approximately hip level creates a tiered effect, with two large patch pockets positioned symmetrically at the back of this tier. The lower skirt is gathered into the hem seam, producing a rounded, lantern-like volume. Beneath the outer white shell, the hem conceals a heavily embellished underskirt in black: a layered construction of embroidered net with sequinned and beaded detailing in a feather or wave motif, visible only when the hem is lifted.
