From the S/S 1983 collection of Yohji Yamamoto, this ivory overall dress exemplifies the label's deconstructive approach to utilitarian tailoring. The upper bodice is cut in an oversized shirt silhouette with a spread collar, a single-breasted button placket, and long full-length sleeves terminating in single-button barrel cuffs. Vertical cascade ruffles frame the front placket on either side, extending from chest to waist. A self-fabric tie fastens at the natural waist, creating a dropped junction between the shirt bodice and the wide, voluminous lower section. The lower portion is constructed with deeply draped, gathered fabric that pools and falls asymmetrically, with pronounced horizontal gathering at the hip and a dramatically elongated hem that tapers to an asymmetric point at the back. Large patch pockets sit at hip level. The back bodice hem is cropped high and distinct from the skirt section, emphasising the separation of the two elements. The fabric has a crinkled, slightly lustrous surface texture consistent with the cotton-nylon blend throughout.
