5/5Valentino 2000s Watercolour Rose-Print Silk Bias-Cut Midi Skirt
This Valentino skirt from the 2000s is executed in a semi-sheer silk that carries an all-over watercolour rose print in blush pink, cream, soft yellow, sage green and muted violet — the tones bleeding into one another in the manner of a nineteenth-century botanical study. Cut on the bias, the skirt falls to midi length from a flat, faced waistband and flares gently towards the hem, with the bias grain imparting fluid, controlled movement. The silhouette is an A-line with a pronounced flare at the lower hem, where the raw edge of the silk is left with a fine, unfurled lettuce finish that reinforces the fragile, painterly character of the piece. A vertical seam runs along the centre back. The skirt is lined in a plain, lighter-weight fabric visible through the translucent outer layer.
