Emanuel Ungaro S/S 2003 Fuchsia Ruched Halterneck Ruffled Gown
From the S/S 2003 collection of Emanuel Ungaro, this gown is constructed in a body-skimming halterneck silhouette with an open back and a ruffled, gathered neck strap that ties at the nape. The bodice and torso are worked in dense horizontal and diagonal ruching, drawing the fabric tightly across the form from bust to hip. A central cascade of voluminous ruffled trim descends the full length of the front, from the deep V-neckline to the hem, graduating into the dramatic skirt. The lower portion dissolves into tiers of layered, loosely gathered ruffles in a lighter-weight fabric, with elongated ribbon-like streamers of varying lengths trailing to the floor, the longest extending well beyond the knee. The back is smooth and unadorned from the nape to the hips, where the ruffle treatment continues symmetrically. The overall silhouette is fitted through the torso and explodes into movement at the lower hem, giving the piece a high-low, fishtail-adjacent quality.
