Dolce & Gabbana S/S 1999 Black Gold Botanical Embroidered Midi Skirt
From the S/S 1999 collection of Dolce & Gabbana, this midi skirt is cut on a gently flared A-line silhouette, falling to just below the knee at the front. The waistband is finished in a contrasting satin-faced ribbon, providing a refined demarcation between body and skirt. The front panel carries an elaborate botanical embroidery motif worked in gold thread — a composition of open iris-like blooms, elongated leaves and slender spike stems rendered in dense satin stitch and couched cord, with accent details in what appear to be small bugle beads and seed beads worked along the stem lines in a deeper bronze-gold tone. The embroidery spans the full height of the front panel, imparting a sense of movement that echoes the flare of the skirt. The hem is finished with a fine chiffon underlayer that softens the silhouette and adds a barely perceptible double hem line at the skirt's edge. The back presents the skirt unadorned, allowing the drape of the fabric to speak for itself. Fastening appears to be at the side or back waist.
