From the S/S 2000 collection of Christian Dior by John Galliano, this cardigan exemplifies the house's characteristic collision of romantic craft and deconstructive tailoring. The body and upper sleeves are constructed in panels of openwork guipure-style lace worked in a repeating floral and lattice motif, arranged in horizontal bands that terminate at the hem in a scalloped picot edge. Structural panels running along the front opening, the shoulder seams, and the centre back are executed in a ribbed chenille knit, providing contrast in both texture and opacity against the sheer lace ground. The collar rises into a soft, draped cowl that falls open at the front; the front edges are left unstructured and closureless, allowing the cardigan to drape freely. Long sleeves combine gathered or ruched lace sections at the upper arm — visible as multiple horizontal tucks — with fitted ribbed-knit cuffs that extend well past the wrist.
