Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière F/W 2007 Black Velvet Double-Breasted Tuxedo Blazer
From the F/W 2007 collection of Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, this double-breasted blazer is constructed in black velvet with contrasting satin-grosgrain trim throughout. The wide peak lapels are faced entirely in a ribbed grosgrain, lending the piece an unmistakable dinner-jacket character. The double-breasted front closes with eight gilt embossed buttons arranged in two columns of four, with an additional decorative button at each lower hip. Two flap pockets sit at the hip, their tabs bound in matching grosgrain. The long sleeves are finished with a grosgrain cuff band, and vertical satin panels run along the side seams from the underarm to the hem, further articulating the silhouette. The back is cut with a pronounced waist suppression and a clean, single-seam centre back. The structured shoulders and fitted torso are consistent with the sharp tailoring vocabulary of Ghesquière's tenure at the house.
