From the S/S 2005 collection of Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, these shorts exemplify the house's architectural approach to volume in that period. Cut in a sky blue ripstop-weave fabric with a faint grid texture visible throughout, the silhouette is dramatically full: deep knife pleats at the high waistband release into an expansive, gathered leg that billows and contracts toward a gathered hem, creating the balloon or harem form associated with the collection. The structured waistband features belt-loop tabs at either side, fastened with polished gold-tone buttons, and a further pair of gilt buttons ornaments a small flap pocket on the left hip.
