Alexander McQueen S/S 2016 Black And Ivory Lace Cut-Out Tiered High-Low Gown
From the S/S 2016 collection of Alexander McQueen, this gown deploys a striking high-low silhouette that pairs a body-skimming lace bodice with an extravagant tiered skirt trailing to floor length at the back. The sleeveless bodice is constructed from black floral Chantilly-style lace laid over an ivory ground, the contrast between the two tones defining the garment's graphic character. A central front panel of ivory lace is edged with black scalloped lace trim and bordered by a column of closely set black fabric-covered buttons that run from the high rounded neckline to the midriff, creating an elongated placket detail. The bodice is cut with deep open side panels — substantial elliptical cut-outs that expose the torso at the waist — further articulated by a continuation of the button trim along their inner edges. The skirt begins with a short lace underskirt at approximately mid-thigh, over which six progressively wider horizontal tiers of black lace flounces cascade to a full floor-length train at the rear, each tier finished with a fine scalloped eyelash edge.
