Alberta Ferretti 1990s Purple Sheer Silk Long-Sleeve Midi Dress

From the 1990s archive of Alberta Ferretti, this midi dress is constructed in a sheer, fine crinkled mesh throughout, rendered in a deep plum-purple. The bodice features a scooped neckline at both front and back, with the neckline and shoulder seams edged in matching frilled appliqué trim. Full-length sleeves in the same sheer mesh finish with a delicate lettuce-edge frill at the cuff. The defining structural feature is a series of diagonal lace-trimmed bands that traverse the body in a continuous spiral from the upper bodice to the lower skirt, each band carrying a densely worked, fringed lace trim in the same plum colourway. The skirt falls to midi length and concludes in a softly ruffled, unstructured hem, consistent throughout with a bias-influenced cut that allows gentle fluidity.
