From the 1990s archive of Alberta Ferretti, this maxi dress is constructed entirely from a diaphanous black sheer fabric that falls in an unstructured column to the floor. The neckline is cut asymmetrically — a wide, off-the-shoulder sweep angled across the décolletage — and is edged with a band of black lace ground densely encrusted with irregular translucent crystal chips, the individual stones varying in size and lending the trim a raw, mineral quality. An identical crystal-chip embellishment appears on both long fitted sleeves, covering the cuffs in a deep flared panel that widens toward the wrist, again mounted on a black lace base. The body of the dress is entirely unembellished, allowing the sheer fabric to drape softly through the length. A high side slit is visible on one side of the skirt, running from approximately mid-thigh to the hem and further emphasising the transparency of the construction. The hem falls straight and unfinished in appearance, consistent with the deliberately raw aesthetic of the piece.
