Alaïa F/W 1988 Black Double-Breasted Tailored Midi Dress
From the F/W 1988 collection of Alaïa, this dress employs the house's signature sculptural tailoring in a deep black woven fabric with a visible diagonal twill weave. Cut in a single-piece silhouette, it features a sharply notched lapel collar that opens to a deep V-front, resolving at the bodice into a double-breasted fastening of eight paired pale blue disc buttons arranged in a close column down the centre front. The bodice is constructed with pronounced princess seaming, creating a precisely contoured waist and a structured, padded shoulder line. A horizontal seam at the high hip marks the transition to a gathered, draped lower skirt, from which two large patch pockets with flat flap tops are applied at each hip, falling into softly ruched fabric. A narrow self-fabric sash tie hangs from the back waist, visible in the side and rear views. The back is cleanly tailored with a central back seam, curved waist suppression seaming, and a horizontal back yoke panel above the skirt. Long set-in sleeves finish with a plain cuff and a short vent at the hem.
